Greyhound Bus & Washington DC (Part I)

Mi primer desplazamiento dentro de los Estados Unidos, desde Nueva York hasta Washington, ha sido en un autobus de la compania Greyhound. Un viaje de cuatro horas que se ha convertido en algo realmente agradable, ya que el pasiaje que se puede observar a traves de la ventanilla en esta epoca del año, es espectacular, mas aun si no estas acostumbrado a la geografia y vida natural de Norteamerica. Los marrones del Otoño, la vida salvaje como ciervos y distintas aves o las construcciones tipicas de la zona hacen de la vista un escenario de pelicula.
El autobus, sin ser ninguna modernidad, es bastante comodo, ademas dispone de wifi, y su precio, muy asequible, 12 euros (17$) para un trayecto de 365 kilometros.
Capital View Hostel
En Washington DC he estado hospedado en un hostel llamado "Capital View". Este es un hostel de alta calidad, y se nota nada mas entrar; limpio, moderno, con unas instalaciones impecables. Cuidan mucho las normas y te lo hacen saber mientras haces el Check-in. Una de ellas es la de no llevar zapatos dentro del edificio,..., pero no es mayor problema ya que tienen una moqueta muy limpia y blandita.
Asi como dije en un post anterior, que el tema de compartir habitacion no entraba dentro de mis planes, he aqui una de las excepciones, y es que el alojamiento en Washington es demasiado caro para mi presupuesto, asi que he optado por una habitacion doble compartida. Tuve la suerte de pasar la primera noche solo, asi que contento por ello, de todos modos, en mi segunda noche aparecio Stefano, un chico italiano que trabaja en Disneyworld (Orlando) y que acababa de llegar a Washington para disfrutar de sus dos dias libres. Realmente me alegro de su visita, fue agradable compartir una charla con el, y me hizo plantearme que tampoco esta tan mal compartir habitacion, sobre todo por el ahorro economico que ello supone y por conocer gente nueva que te puede aportar cosas diferentes, aun asi, con toda la electronica que me acompana, prefiero la independencia.
Washington DC (Parte I)
Mi primer dia en Washington ha sido una autentica pateada, de doce a quince kilometros, segun Google Maps, eso si, muy bien aprovechados. En un dia visite los puntos clave de Washington a excepcion del Pentagono y supongo por supuesto que de algo mas,... pero basicamente, fue un dia de lo mas completo.
Debo decir que no tenia nada preparado, y dando por hecho que todos los caminos llevan a Roma, en este caso, a la Casa Blanca, sali a la calle sin tener mucha idea de lo que iba a ver pero suponiendo que tarde o temprano las cosas iban a aparecer. Y asi ocurrio, despues de preguntar a varias personas como llegar a la Casa Blanca, alli llegue, y desde ahi, ya todo fue coser y cantar e ir encontrandome lo que tenia que visitar:
1.La Casa Blanca: Que decir de La Casa Blanca? Pues nada que no sepais, que es cierto que es una casa, y que es blanca, y que actualmente vive en ella Barak Hussein Obama y familia.
2.Washington Monument: El Washington Monument es el famoso obelisco que todos reconocemos. Se encuentra en el centro del conjunto monumental de Washington, entre el Capitolio y el Lincoln Memorial. Se puede subir a lo mas alto.
3.World War II Memorial: Situado entre el Lincoln Memorial y el Washington Monument. Consiste en una plaza con una gran fuente, en la que cada bloque que observais en la foto contiene un ramo de laureles con el nombre de cada estado en homenaje a los americanos que lucharon en aquella guerra.
4.Vietnam Veterans Memorial: Tambien conocereis el famoso muro negro en el que estan escritos los nombres de todos los fallecidos en la guerra del Vietnam por el bando americano.
4.Lincoln Memorial: El lugar donde se encuentra la famosa estatua de Lincoln sentado. Otro simbolo de Estados Unidos.
5.Cementerio de Arlington: Realmente sorprendente y una visita obligada. Se encuentra a la espalda del Lincoln Memorial. Se llega cruzando el rio a traves del Arlington Memorial Bridge. Es impresionante ver tanta lapida junta. Aqui se encuentra enterrado entre otros John F. Kennedy y su hermano Robert.
6.Capitolio: Los hilos que junto a Wall Street en NY manejan el Mundo.

My first travel within the United States, from New York to Washington, has been on a Greyhound bus. A four-hour trip that has turned into something really nice, since the views that can be seen through the window at this time of year is spectacular, even more if you're not used to the geography and wildlife of North America . Fall browns, wildlife such as deer and various kind of birds or typical buildings of the area make it a movie scenery.
The bus, without being too modern, is
quite comfortable, also has wifi, and its price, very affordable 12 euros (17$) for a distance of 230 miles.
Capital View Hostel
In Washington DC I have been staying at a hostel called "Capital View". This is a high quality hostel, and you can feel it as soon you go inside, it is clean, modern, it has very good facilities. They care a lot of rules and you do know it while you are checking-in. One of this rules is not to wear shoes inside the building ,..., but it is not a greater problem as the carpet is very clean and soft.
As I said in a previous post, the issue of room sharing was not within my plans, but here there is one of the exceptions, due to the expensive rates in Washington, too much for my budget, so I booked a shared double room . I was lucky enough when I spent the first night alone, so happy about that, anyway my second night appeared Stefano, an Italian boy who is working at Disneyworld (Orlando) and who was in Washington to enjoy his two days off. I'm really glad of his visit, it was enjoyable to share a talk with him, and made me consider that it is not so bad sharing a room, especially thinking in economic savings and meeting new people who can offer something different to you, even so, with all the electronics that accompany me, I prefer the independence.

My first day in Washington was a extreme walking day, eight to ten miles, according to Google Maps, but really usefull. In one day I visited the key points of Washington with the exception of the Pentagon and I suppose something else, but basically, it was a very complete day.
I must say that I had nothing prepared, and assuming that all roads lead to Rome, in this case, to the White House, I went out to the street without a big idea of what I was going to see, but assuming that sooner or later things would appear. And so it happened, after ask to several people how to get to the White House, I reached it, and from there, everything went smoothly and I found what I had to visit:
1.The White House: What can I say about The White House that all of you dont know yet? Not too much, it is true, it is a house, and it is white, and nowadays Barak Hussein Obama and family are living there.
2.Washington Monument: It is the famous obelisk that all of you know already. It is in the middle between the Capitol and Lincoln Memorial. You can go to the top ot it.
3.World War II Memorial: Placed between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument. It is a square with a big fountain, where every block that you can see in the picture below contain a laurel branch with the name of every state honoring the veterans who fought in that war.
4.Vietnam Veterans Memorial: The famous black wall with the name of all the deceased soldiers in the Vietnam War
5.Lincoln Memorial: The place where the famous Lincoln statue is. Another symbol of the United States.
5.Arlington Cemetery: Really surprising and a must see. It is behind Lincoln Memorial, and you have to cross the river through the Arlington Memorial Bridge. It is impresing to see so many tombstones together. Here are JFK and his brother Robert tombs.
